IMG Torch Ceremony 2008 Print E-mail

It is a pleasure for the IMGC HQ to inform you of the following News.

On the 20th of March 2008 in Pyongyang, DPRKorea, there has been successfully held the Torch bearing function for the Opening Ceremony of the 3rd International Martial art Games in Bangkok, Thailand April to be officiated by the IMGC in cooperation with the Bangkok International Martial Art Games Organizing Committee (BIMAGOC).


The function was attended by high level figures from the Sports and Martial Art Authority of the DPRK Government and the Korean Martial Art Federation, and Dr. Fritz WENDLAND, Founding President of World Karate Confederation and IMGC EB member on behalf of the IMGC Executive Board with over 150 martial artists in Pyongyang city.

PyongyangThe function included a congratulatory speech by Mr. Hwang Pong Yong, President of the Korean Martial Art Federation, following the flourish of the bungles to declare the Torch lighting from the Flame of the Tower built in 2002 beside the Taekwon-Do hall in Chongchun(Youth) Street. The Torch bearer received the Torch from the President of the Korean Martial Art Federation, the hosting party of the 2nd IMG in 2006, climbed up the Tower to kindle and started running amidst the warm applause of the attendants.

The 3rd IMG flame then travelled through DPRKorea for the next 20days, Pyongyangcarried by 50 torchbearers. The flame was handed over to Bangkok on April 12 at the Stadium in the Asian Game Village where the Opening Ceremony of the 3rd IMG took place.

The IMGC HQ invited all to join in the 3rd International Martial art Games, the grandiose World Martial Arts Festival of the millennium, and enjoy yourselves with togetherness, friendship between the martial artists the world over.
